Review: After toiling for four years with minor hits at home in Australia and in Europe, Cut Copy became more widely known in 2008. It was then that the trio would release their sophomore effort, In Ghost Colours, and receive raving reviews across the board. Following some tours and a handful of remixes, the Australian synth-poppers entered the studio again to record their third album, Zonoscope. In an interview with Pitchfork, band leader Dan Whitford explained that the music on here was created in a more open environment through “weird, extended jams.” As a result, he said the album tends to have a more “repetitive, hypnotic, rhythmic” sound and a less straightforward approach than prior records. – prefix

Review: So YaHeard has been absent for a bit, but after last night I felt it totally necessary to post a review of the Deer Tick show. The picture above spells it all out. John McCauley is a front man maniac. Running through all of their well known essentials, they also threw in a few new numbers. Keeping the crowd jumping and jamming for nearly two hours, they included a rocking encore that ended with a cover of Nirvana’s Serve the Servants. Word to the musically wise…go see Deer Tick if they come through. Thanks Deer Tick!

Review: ”Matthew Houck’s adoring fans occasionally find themselves conscripted into straw-sheriff roles, bound to struggle against the mob justice of Inspector Bloggit followers who’d charge him with petty theft just because he seems aesthetically connectable to other dignitaries within his cosmic art-folk / mystic alt-country / slowcore-gospel idiom. The Neutral Milk Hotel comparisons that his work used to attract were inexplicable to this typist’s ears– wtf, because he also lived in Athens? And yes, now that he claims Brooklyn, one can detect– in three songs– a flirtation with those post-Animal Collective poles of, y’know, elliptical ethereality and raucous tribalism in his approach to song structure and performance.” -pitchfork

Review: ”On the second morning of SXSW I mustered up the energy to roll out of bed to see Peter Wolf Crier’s set at The Muzzle Of Bees party. I had listened to an advanced copy of Inter-Be while at work and wasn’t able to get a firm grasp on the music with all the distractions. I was not prepared to be blown away in Austin. Consisting of Peter Pisano and Brian Moen, the duo based out of Minneapolis play some blend of folk/blues that’s tough to label. A friend of mine claims they sound like M. Ward, but I’ll stick with the time-tested label of awesome. Pisano plays guitar, bass pedals, sings, loops his vocals. Christ, he does everything short of making balloon animals on stage. And, while you may think that doesn’t leave much room for Moen to shine, the exact opposite is true. Watching them play, and on many subsequent listens to Inter-Be, it’s uncanny how Moen pops up with fills or brings the drums to the forefront at the perfect moment. For such a relatively new band, their chemistry on stage is mesmerizing.” -hearya

Born and raised in Austin, TX, Gary continued to play small gigs through his early teens until one day he was noticed by the legendary Clifford Antone, owner of the notable Austin blues club Antone’s. Through the connections made by Clifford within his club, Gary soon was sitting in and learning from various musical icons, including the incomparable Jimmie Vaughan. Through the mentoring of Jimmie and others within the Austin music community, Gary began to receive much critical acclaim from both his musical peers and the Austin community as a whole.. Passion Pit Revived!!!!

I don’t usually write reviews, but my-oh-my did the gentlemen of Passion Pit show Austin, TX what it means to melt faces and drive those hipster kids wild. Michael Angelakos, lead man for the group, had interaction with the crowd like I’ve never seen. Transferring his energy into the crowd before each song, Stubb’s erupted into the dance party of the century on every first note. The intensely synth-laced dance pop, teamed by an incredible stage presence kept Austin dancing through the sauna like Texas nights. The 5^th time I have seen them this year was undoubtedly the best. My buddy put it best when he said, “they played every song like it was their last, and every song was a #1 hit.” Thanks Passion Pit.
